In a world still grappling with the issues of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), there are individuals who rise from their wounds and turn them into the strength to bring about change. Eva<\/b> is one of them. At 26 years old, she is both a survivor and a mobilizer who uses her painful past as fuel to empower others. Eva\u2019s journey as an SGBV and gender justice activist is living proof that courage and resilience can serve as a guiding light for many other survivors.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Eva\u2019s journey began in her teenage years when she experienced sexual harassment in a public space\u2014a male stranger touched her chest in the street. That event left deep emotional scars. However, like many other survivors, Eva did not speak up immediately. She was momentarily submerged in fear, shame, and self-doubt. Amidst that darkness, a small flame emerged within her that refused to go out\u2014an urge to rise and find her voice.<\/p>\n

Eva grew up as the daughter of a single mother who had also experienced domestic violence. From her mother, Eva learned the meaning of courage, independence, and the importance of fighting injustice. Their relationship was not just that of parent and child, but of comrades-in-arms, strengthening one another. Her mother’s support became the primary foundation of Eva’s spirit in fighting for SGBV survivors.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the chamber of my heart, my mother is an extraordinary source of strength\u2014an unshakable pillar amidst the storms of life. In her love, I found limitless power, and in her example, I understood the meaning of an extraordinary life.\u201d<\/p>\n

After experiencing a traumatic event of sexual violence, Eva\u2014a law student at one of Indonesia\u2019s prestigious universities\u2014faced another trial in 2019 when she ran for Chairperson of the Student Executive Board (BEM) on her campus. However, a large portion of her fellow students rejected her simply because she is a woman. This experience served to ignite a fire within Eva to take action against gender injustice.<\/p>\n

With the determination to create change, Eva and several of her friends formed a feminist collective called the Lingkar Studi Feminis (LSF)<\/b>. In the beginning, they had very limited knowledge regarding feminism, SGBV, and gender justice issues. Recognizing the vital importance of knowledge and mentorship, Eva reached out to LBH APIK Jakarta<\/b>, an organization focused on SGBV issues, to seek support and guidance.<\/p>\n

Initially, Eva\u2019s decision to work in the field of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) met with skepticism from her family and friends. They questioned her motives as well as the challenges she might face. However, over time, as they witnessed Eva\u2019s unwavering dedication and the positive impact of her work, that doubt transformed into support. They began to understand Eva\u2019s passion and resolve, eventually becoming the pillars of her strength.<\/p>\n

Through her work with the Lingkar Studi Feminis (LSF)<\/b>, Eva focuses on advocacy and providing assistance to SGBV survivors. She dedicates herself to ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are protected. However, her commitment to justice has come with a price. Eva once again became a target of attacks\u2014this time on social media. This online harassment left her fearful and shaken. Nevertheless, Eva remained resolute; she refused to bow to fear and continued her mission.<\/p>\n

As an activist and advocate, Eva understands that education and awareness-raising are the keys to creating sustainable change. She realizes that despite progress, many members of society still do not fully grasp the issues of gender justice. Determined to bridge this gap, Eva consistently organizes workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns to educate the public and challenge existing social norms.<\/p>\n

Eva firmly believes that within the grand narrative of social change, there is one vital chapter calling upon the youth\u2014encouraging them to discover their own voices and project them to the world. In the struggle to end Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV)<\/b> and uphold gender justice, the voices of young people are irreplaceable\u2014a resounding chorus that demands attention and ignites change. Youth hold the power to illuminate the path toward a brighter future.<\/p>\n

Through courageous stories, written with empathy and understanding, the oppressive walls of silence begin to crumble\u2014replaced by a symphony of solidarity.<\/p>\n

\u201cYoung people must have the courage to take control of change, because within their united voices lies the power to create a world where every soul is free from the shackles of violence and discrimination.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amidst her personal trauma and the social challenges she faced, Eva has emerged as a symbol of resilience, strength, and empowerment. Her journey as an advocate and activist for SGBV and gender justice serves as powerful proof of the transformative power born from courage, determination, and an unyielding commitment to a noble cause.<\/p>\n
