Mataram, September 19–20, 2026 — In preparation for the launch of Let’s Read: Keluarga Siap Masa Depan, Yayasan Gemilang Sehat Indonesia (YGSI), with support from The Asia Foundation through Let’s Read, held an intensive two-day training for Posyandu cadres.
The Let’s Read: Keluarga Siap Masa Depan program is an initiative that aims to transform waiting time at Posyandu into an interactive learning space for caregivers and children. Through the provision of Reading Corners and Learning Sheets, the program focuses on promoting early childhood literacy while strengthening caregivers’ capacity in family financial management and self-care.
This cadre training marked a crucial step in the preparation phase before the program is officially implemented across 20 Posyandu in Mataram City and West Lombok Regency. Posyandu cadres play a key role as support facilitators, helping explain the materials, guide caregivers through reflection and simple exercises, and refer caregivers to trusted services when they encounter issues beyond the cadres’ capacity and authority.
Equipping Cadres with Financial Literacy and Emotional Regulation Skills
Throughout the training, cadres received intensive sessions from experts to prepare them to facilitate the Learning Sheets for caregivers. On financial literacy, in collaboration with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) of West Nusa Tenggara Province, Mr. Tama introduced cadres to ways of supporting caregivers in setting spending priorities, identifying the risks of illegal lending, and protecting personal data such as OTP codes, PINs, and national identity cards (KTP).
Meanwhile, on caregiver mental health and self-care, cadres learned alongside Mr. Haryo Widodo, a Clinical Psychologist from the UPTD PPA of West Nusa Tenggara Province, about recognizing signs of parental burnout. Cadres were also introduced to an emotional regulation technique, Pause – Make Sure It Is Safe – Resume Communication, to help caregivers create a safe and calm family environment.
Strengthening Read-Aloud Skills
To promote early literacy and reading habits, cadres participated in a practical Read-Aloud session conducted by YGSI in collaboration with Lombok Read Aloud (LoRA). The cadres were equipped with practical skills to support children’s early development and interest in reading, from exploring a book’s cover and introducing its author to using expressive intonation and facial expressions.
Cadres were also trained in dialogic reading techniques, including asking interactive questions throughout a 5–15-minute reading session and inviting children to share their favorite parts of the story afterward. The training emphasized that reading activities at Posyandu should be flexible and enjoyable, enabling cadres to model the experience for caregivers so that the habit of reading together can continue at home with their families.
Building Cadres’ Confidence and Collaboration
The two-day training not only equipped cadres with technical knowledge and skills but also provided an opportunity to strengthen their confidence. Through discussions and hands-on activities, cadres were able to get to know one another, exchange experiences, and build stronger collaboration among Posyandu cadres.
This capacity-building initiative also contributes to supporting the Minimum Service Standards (SPM) for Education through Posyandu, particularly by promoting early literacy stimulation, reading habits, and positive parenting practices from an early age.
The spirit of togetherness built throughout the training marks a positive beginning for the program’s implementation in the field. With well-prepared cadres, reading habits and positive parenting practices are expected to gradually grow from Posyandu and extend into families’ homes.
