Through the Gen G and RHRN2 programs, we empower village women to become the frontline of community protection. In Palu and Langkat, we have witnessed an extraordinary transformation: from homemakers who were once just neighbors to talk to, into paralegals who master the law and are capable of directly handling cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
In Kalyana Village, Palu, two homemakers have taken on the role of providing emergency safe havens for victims of violence. After participating in paralegal training with LBH APIK Palu and LBH-RT, they have become the community’s primary point of reference and now have the courage to accompany cases all the way to the Regional Police (Polres).
“I am so proud. Because we are trusted by the community, and we can help directly. I used to not know what to do, but now, because I am a paralegal, I know how to handle cases and the proper reporting channels.” — Ibu Hasna, Homemaker/Paralegal in Kalyana Village, Palu.
In Sidomulyo, Stabat, Langkat, a similar transformation was experienced by two homemakers through Community-Based Services (LBK) and guidance from the Aliansi Sumatera Bersatu (ASB). They handle severe cases such as child bullying and digital violence, building public trust through concrete action.
“I used to know nothing about the law. But now, after joining the LBK (Community-Based Services), I understand it and can help the community. If there is any violence, you can report it to me.” — Ibu Inda, Homemaker/Paralegal in Sidomulyo, Stabat, Langkat.
“We are now able to explain to the community what violence actually is; we’ve even reached the point of conducting socializations at youth health centers (posyandu remaja) and women’s prayer groups (pengajian).” — Ibu Fauziah, Homemaker/Paralegal in Sidomulyo, Stabat, Langkat.
